Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic Rock
The building blocks of the Cascade Waterfall on the UO Campus.
Rocks come in many shapes and sizes
And from many different places
Hot or cold
Wet or dry
Many have crystals inside
But how can you tell the difference
When rocks have similar characteristics?
An Igneous rock was once lava that cooled
Sedimentary rocks can form in water pools
Made from minerals and particles that stick together like glue
Metamorphic rocks used to be Igneous, Sedimentary and
Metamorphic too!
Temperature and pressure help rocks change shape
And chemical reactions causes their colors to change
With many rocks in the world some go unseen
Every rock is special and unique
Like you and me.
