Community Outreach Programs

The museum brings amazing, interactive learning experiences to libraries, community organizations, and special events around the state.

  • Discovery Tables
Discovery Tables present fascinating specimens and artifacts, encourage hands-on learning, and can be customized to meet specific audience needs and interests.
  • Family Library Programs (Great for other community venues too!)Outreach Program
Oregon libraries can enhance their family programs and connect audiences to Oregon’s natural and cultural history by hosting a visit from the MNCH outreach program. Our one-hour program experiences are tailored to family audiences and each one includes a book reading, a short program presentation, and activity tables offering touchable specimens and hands-on activities.

The family library programs are presented by a museum educator and are available to travel throughout Oregon. The program requires space for multiple activity tables (approximately 6-10), but setup is flexible depending on library and audience size.

Family Library Program Options

Oregon Rocks! **New for summer 2018**Boy in lab coat
Take off on a geology adventure to explore our ever-changing planet Earth. Dig deep into rocks, fossils, earthquakes and volcanos with fun, hands-on activities and rockin’ specimens, discovering the forces that have shaped Oregon’s landscape over time.

Oregon Rocks! will be available starting June 2018 and is designed to enhance the 2018 summer library reading program theme – “Libraries Rock!” See scheduling information below to request Oregon Rocks! to visit your library this summer.

These other Family Library Programs are also available this summer and any time of the year.

Engineer It! Exploring Ancient Technologies
Build a shelter, design a boat, weave a shoe, or invent a fishing tool! Try out your own engineering skills while discovering technologies designed by Oregon’s first engineers. Native American people have long used science and engineering to create effective tools, homes, clothing, cooking methods and more - passing this knowledge down through generations. Many of these innovations are still being used today! Join us to explore a collection of Oregon artifacts from the museum and engage in fun, hands-on engineering challenges.

Move Like a MammothMammoth Girl
Can you pounce like a saber tooth cat, lift like a mammoth, or stroll like a giant ground sloth? Get moving as you discover how these and other amazing ancient animals ran, swam, leaped, climbed, and ate their way through Oregon’s history. Explore fossils, bones and teeth while comparing ancient animals to those living in Oregon today.
