Can you see the horizontal layers in the sandstone? For millions of years, layers of marine sand accumulated and compacted on the ocean fl oor. Uplift raised the sandstone above the surface. Eventually, the sandstone will crumble back into grains of sand.

 

Unique Basalt at Cobble Beach

Grey and tan apple-sized basalt rocks cover the shoreline at Cobble Beach. In the future, crashing waves will likely break up these rocks into the tiny sand grains commonly found on other beaches.
