Travel
east on 13th Avenue and turn north past Fenton Hall toward Villard
Hall. As you walk, think about how erosion and weathering have
taken their tolls on the buildings.
Look
at the sidewalks beneath you. What materials make up the sidewalks
you walk on? Why do you think there are so many cracks in the
streets and the pavement?*
Villard
Hall was built in 1885 from local sandstone blocks. This classical
building has been renovated many times, but the original sandstone
can still be seen at the utility basement entrance on the south
side of the building. Feel the texture of the side of the building.
Notice how the sandstone lives up to its descriptive name!
