Make your way toward the fountain in front of Cascade Hall. Cascade and the Volcanology building south of it house the main office and laboratories of the Department of Geological Sciences where scientists and study geophysics, petrology, mineralogy, paleontology and stratigraphy.

Inside Cascade Hall, you will find geology display cases. An exhibit on the first floor shows the details of how rocks are sliced and ground for microscope viewing. Another series of cases exhibit mineral specimens.

The large fountain in the courtyard was designed by Alice Wingwall (1990) and titled “Cascade Charlie: a water contemplation place.” Alice Wingwall is a blind artist, who created the fountain by the sounds water makes when falling on rocks.
