A Collaboration Between
The University of Oregon Museum of Natural History
and
Local Middle Schools
Exploration Odyssey gives middle school students the opportunity to learn about their local environment by being out there in it. After school, students travel with an instructor to nearby parks, wetlands, and farms so that they might better understand and respect the nature that surrounds them. Students conduct scientific surveys, take photographs, walk, compete in scavenger hunts, plant native seeds, and get licked by cows, all while having fun and being in a safe place after school.
In the spring of 2002, Spencer Butte students participated in a ten-week Exploration Odyssey, while Monroe and Jefferson students attended a five-week session.
This program is made possible by the generous support of the Elizabeth S. Holden fund of the Oregon Community Foundation.
